For many people around the world, a full head of hair represents attractiveness and desirability both personally and professionally. For this reason, it is vital to understand what effects a hair restoration procedure can have on your daily interactions with people and in all other aspects of your life. Hair restoration should be unnoticeable to all but those you tell.

The fact is 40 million men and approximately 21 million women, including many in Chicago, suffer from male/female pattern baldness or thinning hair. Many potential patients shy-away from (or are not candidates for) the traditional “strip method” of hair replacement because of the slow recovery time, the loss of feeling at the incision site, the unattractive linear scar on the back of the head, or the amount of post-operative pain involved.

After much research, we have chosen to offer the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method utilizing the NeoGraft™ Automated Hair Transplantation device. The FUE method of hair transplantation removes individual hair follicles from the scalp in their naturally occurring groupings of about 1-4 hairs and are then placed in the areas of the scalp where balding has occurred.

Top 6 Reasons Why FUE is the Solution:

  • FUE is a less invasive procedure for hair transplanting.
  • Patients who undergo FUE, feel less discomfort.
  • There are no stitches or staples used.
  • There is no linear scar.
  • There is quicker healing.
  • Back to work in a day or two.

My passion for hair loss prevention and hair replacement goes back to the mid-1990s, when I started losing my own hair. While completing a MD/PhD program, I decided to do some research on my own. At that point, Rogain was a dominant prescription drug and Propecia (which blocks 5 alpha reductase) was just making it on the market. From my own research I focused on the 5 alpha reductase gene, picked a sensitive area in the front end of the gene (the promoter), and designed a complementary oligonucleotide (oligo) that would bind the RNA made from this gene and prevent any 5 alpha reductase from being made.

The oligo was small enough to penetrate skin. I used my own scalp to test the theory. In the end, my results were not significant enough and I decided to pursue other more effective measures to restore hair. Over the next couple of years, I started using Rogain and oral Propecia. I trained in the dermatology field under one of the greatest experts on hair, Dr. Virginia Fiedler, who invented 5% of Rogain. From there, I further trained with others on the surgical aspects of hair transplantation, and I have been practicing different forms of hair transplantation for more than 13 years.

Why FUE with NeoGraft?

The results are great and your back to work and your life style much faster than the traditional technique.

NeoGraft™ Patient Testimonials

I am 49 years old and get sick to my stomach every morning as I try harder and harder to cover up my thinning areas on my head. No matter how many times my wife tells me I am handsome and she loves me, she knows, for me, it is so much more than that. I just can’t explain it completely. It just bothers me to no-end. I wish it didn’t. But it does. So in doing my homework and talking to many consultant friends, I knew I did not want a big scar that looked like a smile on the back of my head and thus I would have to keep my hair at a longer length – I want to keep my hair short – if possible. I was advised to look into the NeoGraft FUE system. The procedure was so darn easy to tolerate. Recovery was a breeze. – Dan R., Houston, TX

Wow! That is how I would have to describe the NeoGraft procedure that I had done. After I left the office I did not have to take any pain medication, and aside from wanting to itch the graft area, the procedure did not affect my daily life in the least. I am 44 years old and was balding in the crown area and have already had friends comment on the difference and it has only been 4 weeks! – Michael C., Savannah, GA

Male pattern baldness runs in my family. My father and two older brothers all lost their hair at a very early age. At 48, I thought I had beaten the odds and was going to have a decent head of hair for the rest of my life. As all men do in the morning when shaving, I noticed my hair on top getting a little thinner every month when at the age of 50 I too had lost about 50% of my hair up top. It really didn’t bother me until I was forced into searching for a new job and finding out that my thinning hair may not help me with my search efforts. So as I researched my thinning hair options, I was not too pleased to hear about the surgery where they cut a strip of scalp from the back of the head. That’s when I heard about NeoGraft, a simple procedure where they take small grafts from the back of the head and place them where you need them. This was much more appealing to me. After I consulted with a doctor who actually had it done on himself (how about that for an endorsement) I was sold on the procedure. The procedure was painless and I was able to resume my normal activities the next day. Other than some minor swelling a few days after the procedure, I felt no discomfort. I will definitely recommend the Neograft procedure to all my friends. – Winston R., Dallas, TX
