Preparing the Hair for a Transplant using ARTAS 9xIn this video, Dr. Shah prepares a patient for an hair transplantation using the ARTAS 9x Hair Restoration Robot. The ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplant gives you fuller, younger-looking hair while eliminating the drawbacks typically associated with older transplant methods. You’ll get great looking, permanent hair that looks so natural, even your barber or hairstylist won’t be able to tell. Recovery time is fast, with most people returning to work or other activities within a few days. The ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant brings a new level of precision and accuracy to hair transplantation. Each hair is removed and transplanted individually, so you can be confident that you’ll have natural looking results. It’s a minimally invasive procedure, so no stitches are used, and there’s no risk of that tell-tale linear scar that’s associated with older transplant methods. At Aesthetic Scalp, we use the only 9X version of ARTAS in Chicago. The 9X version of the robot allows for improved graft quality, higher graft survival rates and even help in determining the orientation of hair graft placement. While earlier versions are effective, they are not as efficient as the latest version. It is like comparing the original iPhone to the iPhone X!!The ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant uses hair that’s not subject to male pattern baldness, so you’ll get permanent results that last a lifetime. And since it’s your own hair, you’ll get a natural looking outcome. No special care is needed for the transplanted hair; you can cut and style your hair in any way you like.Great looking, natural hair without the downsides – No Plugs. No Stitches. No Regrets. Confidence Restored.Mapping hair with ARTAS 9xThis video illustrates how the ARTAS 9x maps out where the hair will be extracted from and an ideal location to place them. Get Started Today You can have a fuller, healthier looking head of hair sooner than you think. But the only way to know for sure is to see a hair transplant physician so that you can find out if it’s right for you. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is the ARTAS inherently better than other modalities?Hair transplantation success rates will vary based on the method of harvest (manual FUE, ARTAS, Neograft, etc). In general, ARTAS has a higher success rate and a more consistent harvest rate than manual FUE due to a whole host of factors. Patients with failures in hair transplantation can be from the graft harvest aspect or poor recipient bed. ARTAS helps improve uptake from the harvest aspect by selecting hairs in proper phase of growth + lower transection rates. Recipient bed nourishment can be improved by a variety of regenerative factors to get better graft take as well. In my hair transplantation practice, we combine these two elements in every case to help get more consistent results. How long does it take my hair to grow?Patience is the key here. Hair growth after an ARTAS or any other procedure takes some time. The key here is that you are transferring hairs from one area to another which can cause hair grafts to undergo a shift in phase from anagen (growth) to telogen (shedding) phase. For most patients this process will take between month 3 and month 12. We try to minimize the shedding process by using a combination of hair transplantation technology with regenerative medicine to help decrease the shedding phase. Can I go back to work right away?Healing time differs from patient to patient. However we have seen patients go back to work in as few as three days. Here, we see the donor area of this patient quickly growing back after seven days. Also, the ARTAS Robot has left no scarring that you would have from the Strip Method of hair transplantation. *ACTUAL PATIENT Why is the Strip Method Commonly Criticized? One of the criticisms of the strip method is that it leaves a permanent scar. All scars are permanent and can be attempted to be lessened in appearance. Some techniques to decrease appearance of scars from the strip method:Steroid injection- can thin a scar and make it more likely to accept hair graftsDirect excision- best for thick scars and unsightly scarsTissue expansion and direct excision- Used for rare cases with multiple harvest and especially poor scarsFUE placement- Here only the best of the best grafts will survive and ARTAS for patients with donor hairs still available as well as body hair can be optionsScalp Micropigmentation- An increasingly valuable tool in hair transplantation to help hide scars and improve hair results Tell Me AboutARTAS vs Neograft“What is the difference betweenARTAS vs Neograft?” is a common question of hair transplantation patients. Neograft is a handheld manual FUE with suction built into the device. Based on this design there are several flaws in harvesting hairs including human error, suction injury leading to trauma to the harvested hairs and a host of other potential issues. ARTAS is a state of the art robotic system used to help eliminate human mistakes using stereoscopic cameras, computer algorithms, and continual updates. The ARTAS can actually detect which hairs are in the anagen phase of growth while it is extraordinarily difficult with the naked eye. While there are a host nuances to hair transplantation, harvesting issues are nearly eliminated with ARTAS. We have abandoned the use of manual FUE and other devices due to consistently lower hair graft survival rates. Even a 10% difference, which seems minuscule but, can make a significant impact on your final result. Is ARTAS Cost Effective? The true cost of hair transplantation is based on a variety of factors and issues.Economics –There is no better analogy than ‘You get what you pay for!’ with hair transplantation. While finding low cost options at chain providers is an option, patients are often left with visible scars, poor graft yields, and aesthetically unappealing graft placement. ARTAS represents the state of the art and a huge advance in hair transplantation. Patients should expect to pay more for a better procedure than a lower quality one.Hair Reserve – We often think only terms of economics but for a few thousand more, obtaining hair grafts with a higher yield (i.e. lower transection, proper growth phase, etc) will allow the patients to have a better result with less donor hairs. What is the best type of hair for the ARTAS procedure? The best hair type for the ARTAS is black, straight hair. However, the ARTAS can work on a variety of hair types. For white or grey hair, hair dye can be used for improved detection. For curly hair, the ARTAS can be adjusted to help it remove hair with increased precision. Why did Dr. Shah and Chughtai chose ARTAS?We chose ARTAS because it is definitively better than any other technique we’ve studied. We have used a variety of techniques in the past and we only want the best for our patients. Manuel FUE has higher transection rates (unusable hairs damaged during harvest) which caused wasting of precious reserve hairs. Even physicians claiming to get higher yields often inflate viable harvest rate percentage upon observation. The strip procedure limited hairstyles and also wasted precious donor hairs by harvesting at least 10% of hairs in the wrong phase of hair process! ARTAS allows for fuller grafts which can be extracted, which in our experience is the best quality grafts, and decreased transection rates dramatically. Seeing the ARTAS in person demonstrates that this technological advance is not just right a small step forward for medicine, but a major advance in the field of hair transplantation. Can I wash my hair right after the procedure? We give detailed instructions for each patient. Our patients can use a proprietary rinse formula exclusively at Aesthetic Scalp for the first 7 days. Our proprietary rinse, called AS rinse, is designed to decrease the shedding phase of hair transplantation. We have found a significant degree of our patients will now only have minimal shedding. Normal hair washing can occur 7-10 days after the procedure. Can the ARTAS harvest beard hair or body hair?Currently the ARTAS does not harvest body hair. The body hair harvest is the one area where we use manual FUE since the reserve of hairs and quality of hairs are considered second line. Body hair harvesting is difficult with higher transection rates and lower yields. Can I watch TV during the procedure?Yes, most of our patients will watch TV, use their phone or iPad, finalize business deals, study for exams and more during the procedure. We know that you want to be entertained so we provide you with multiple options to make your day as enjoyable as possible.Do patients fly from all over to see Dr. Shah and Dr. Chughtai?Yes, we have patients fly to Chicago from all corners of the world for our services. The reason is that in addition to world class robotics and technical expertise, we combine our transplantation with true regenerative medicine and unparalleled patient care. In our experience, combination of these techniques allow for better results and improve your overall hair experience. Where are Dr. Shah and Dr. Chughtai located?Dr. Shah and Dr. Sameea’s office is located on the iconic Magnificent Mile ( Michigan Avenue) in downtown Chicago. Once you arrive at The Watertower Place consider yourself home. Is there a difference between one surgeon with ARTAS and another? The differences tend to be minimized but are still present. Differences are in artistic placement of the grafts, use of regenerative techniques. Hair graft placement (orientation) and design are a large component of the hair restoration process. Graft yield and hair success rate are also critically important. Which version of ARTAS do Dr. Shah and Dr. Chughtai have?We have the latest version of the ARTAS robot. The original robot, although groundbreaking in its time, is over a decade old. The latest version is limited to a handful of doctors in the world (there are only 300 total robots in the world and a handful of 9X versions). We have the only 9X robot in Chicago and the surrounding regions. The 9X robot leads to improved graft harvest, yield, and hair placement than the previous version.
