Thinning hair and balding are often passed down genetically. If someone from your intermediate family members (cousins, uncles, aunts, mother, father, siblings, etc) are exhibiting balding traits, you too could be at risk. A key gene, the AR Gene, could stem from your father or maternal grandfather. While there are many reasons you can lose hair, one way to inherit hair loss is through the X gene passed down from their mothers. If women have the balding gene, their sons will have that gene 50% of the time.
