Takeaway 1: Exosomes and PRP are two underutilized treatments for hair growth.

In a recent interview, Dr. Anil Shah from Aesthetic Scalp in Chicago, IL, talked about two underutilized regenerative medicine treatments for hair growth. These treatments are Exosomes and PRP. "So I'm talking about probably one of the most underutilized hair growth treatments and that's going to be either exosomes or PRP," said Dr. Shah.

What are Exosomes and PRP?

Exosomes are small vesicles that are released from the cells. They contain proteins and genetic material that communicate information back and forth between other cells and instruct cells on how to act.

PRP, also known as platelet-rich plasma, are concentrated platelets from the patient’s own blood. The “liquid gold” is extracted after the blood is separated between platelet-rich plasma and platelet-poor plasma.

Both treatments have both been found very viable to help stimulate the growth of hair in patients who have thinning hair and for patients who have had hair transplant surgery.

Combining Other Hair Treatments With Exosomes and PRP

Dr. Shah believes that these treatments are underutilized and should be a widely used option for hair growth. He also believes and practices combining Exosomes / PRP with other hair growing techniques and practices.

"That's why I'm saying it's so underutilized," said Shah. "It can be used in combination with other treatments to really get the best results."

Dr. Shah has also stated that he believes that Exosomes and PRP is a safe and effective treatment that can be used for a variety of hair loss conditions for both men and women. These regenerative medicines can be used in combination with other treatments such as minoxidil, finasteride, and laser treatments.

Takeaway 2: Clinical studies have shown that there is an increase in hair growth with the use of certain treatments.

Dr. Anil Shah, a medical professional in Chicago, IL, discussed the efficacy of certain treatments in promoting hair growth. "We’ve calculated more hair growth anecdotally with our patients," he said.

Clinical studies have also shown that there is an increase in hair growth with the use of treatments such as minoxidil, finasteride, and platelet-rich plasma therapy.

Dr. Shah concluded that these treatments, when used correctly and consistently, can improve hair growth significantly.
